Music Mondays: I Shall Not Walk Alone

This song has particular significance to me. It was my single largest musical inspiration when writing my novel, The Color of the Soul (also available in Kindle ebook version).

I must have listened to this song a hundred times or more when writing it. When you hear it, hopefully you’ll understand why.

Originally, it was a Ben Harper song. And his acoustic version is the best in my eyes. This was the closest I’ve come to finding the original acoustic version. The sound is a bit off, but it’s great nonetheless:

A gospel group known as The Blind Boys of Alabama remade the song. And yes, they really are blind, but they’re far from deaf.

But perhaps the most emotionally moving version is the collaboration between Ben Harper and The Blind Boys of Alabama. I especially like the slowed down tempo of this one.
